ABOUT THE ARTIST
Radhika Srinivasan is an accomplished artist based in Austin, Texas. She had a passion for art from a very young age. She was intrigued by the beauty of different Indian art and took special interest in Tanjore paintings. She has been practicing this art form since 1999. She founded R. A. Arts & Crafts in 2003 and have been teaching art classes to adults and kids since then. She has also presented her work in different art shows in Texas. Her main objective is to spread the word about these dying art forms, which is more than two centuries old and make them available to a wider audience. She offers custom workshops and classes in order to inspire and enhance the creative spark and spirit.

HISTORY OF TANJORE PAINTINGS
Tanjore (or Thanjavur or Thanjavoor) paintings has been followed widely by the people in Southern Tamil Nadu, India for the past few centuries. The art flourished in Tanjore, the capital city of the Chola dynasty, and thus got its name.

Tanjore paintings are distinctive in its mural style combined with amazing details characterized by exquisite workmanship of precious stones and pure gold leaves. It also includes a small measure of three dimensionality - gesso work using chalk powder and adhesive to give a depth to the painting.

Tanjore painting acquired its robust forms, architectural details and vibrant colors. The emphasis in a Tanjore painting is distributed between the studded gems, gold and intricate painting.
